Learn All about the Audition Process and the Cast

 

BEN SHIMKUS

Shows/Roles: The Troll and the Elephant Prince (Jack), Damn Yankees (Henry), Footloose (Ensemble)

What was your audition process for Tibbits like? “I sent in videos of past performances at other venues, and then I personally choreographed a minute-long dance piece to showcase my abilities as a dancer. And then a few weeks later, I received a contract to return to Tibbits!”

How did you get started in theatre? “My sister started doing theatre, and I liked singing, so she showed me that musical theatre is a way to use singing as a forum. I was 14 years old when I started, and have been performing non-stop ever since!”

Where are you from originally? “Saratoga Springs, NY. I graduated from SUNY Cortland in 2016 with a degree in musical theatre.”

What are your plans after Tibbits? “I will be going back to NYC to purchase a new apartment and continue auditioning and working as a professional actor.”

 

JACOB SMITH

Shows/Roles: The Troll and the Elephant Prince (Troll), Damn Yankees (Sohovick/Teen), Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Pigs (Jones/Wolf), Footloose (Ensemble)

What was your audition process for Tibbits like? “My friend actually referred me to the director of Damn Yankees who I heard was looking for triple-threats for the show and I submitted a video audition of my own choreography and along with a short cut of a song. The rest is history!”

How did you get started in theatre?  “I started dancing my junior year of high school but it wasn’t until my sophomore year at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY that I fell into theatre and started developing my career as a musical theatre performer.”

Where are you from originally? “Saratoga Springs, NY. I graduated from SUNY Cortland in 2016 with a degree in musical theatre.”

What are your plans after Tibbits? “After the contract, I’ll go back to Rochester to perform in Sweet Charity and then finish out my senior year of school. I plan to move to NYC after graduation to start auditioning for professional work!”

 

BAILEY KOTE

Shows/Roles: The Troll and the Elephant Prince (Boult), Damn Yankees (Miss Weston), Footloose (Ensemble)

What was your audition process for Tibbits like? “I auditioned at the open call in NYC. It was first NYC audition and I guess it went well! All of the girls went into a room first and learned a dance combination before performing it in groups of 5. Afterwards, some people were asked to stay and sing an 80’s song for Footloose. I sang “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” by Whitney Houston. Then we were done, and Charles offered me a contract a few weeks later!”

How did you get started in theatre? “I danced since the age of 3. My teachers and friends taught theatre at SUNY Cortland and encouraged me to audition for the school productions at an early age. I was in my first college production, “Anastasia,” at age 11 and have been performing in musicals ever since then!”

Where are you from originally? “I am from Cortland, NY.”

What are your plans after Tibbits? “I will be returning to Rider University for my sophomore year, where I am studying musical theatre.”

 

SEAN THOMAS NOONAN

Shows/Roles: The Troll and the Elephant Prince (Mr. Tripp), Damn Yankees (Van Buren), Footloose (Ensemble)

What was your audition process for Tibbits like? “I sent in videos from auditions that I had done at SUNY Cortland—one of my professors, Kevin Halpin, is a director here at Tibbits every summer, so he sent my materials in to Charles.”

How did you get started in theatre? “I joined the High School Musical craze at a young age—I was 12 or so. I wanted to get the role of Troy Bolton, but I ended up with the role of Zeke in my middle school production. Ever since then, I’ve constantly been involved in theatre.”

Where are you from originally? “I am from Water Mill, NY. I just graduated from SUNY Cortland with my degree in musical theatre.”

What are your plans after Tibbits? “I plan on going back to Long Island and auditioning for multiple regional theatres in New York City.”

 

BETH CONLEY

Shows/Roles: The Troll and the Elephant Prince (Dana), Damn Yankees (Gloria Tharpe), Footloose (Urleen)

What was your audition process for Tibbits like? “I submitted for an audition appointment in NYC and then I went to the appointment and did the dance call. They called me back to sing for Ariel in Footloose and that was it!”

How did you get started in theatre? “I started dancing when I was 3 and it kind of went from there. I did my first musical, Oliver, in 3rd grade and was very involved in choir growing up. My parents said they knew from my first dance recital that I was destined for the stage!”

Where are you from originally? “I am from Rochester, NY and I went to Wright State University for my BFA in Acting with an emphasis in Musical Theatre.”

What are your plans after Tibbits? “I plan to return to NYC and continue auditioning!”

What are you most excited to do during your off time in Coldwater? “I love parks and being outdoors, so I’m excited to explore what Coldwater has to offer!”

 

EMMA DRIVER

Shows/Roles: The Troll and the Elephant Prince (Mrs. Mint), Damn Yankees (Ensemble), Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Pigs (Ms. Dupree), and Footloose.

What was your audition process for Tibbits like? “I went to the dancer call in NYC, so we all danced, and then went into the room one at a time to sing for the directors.”

How did you get started in theatre? “My mother put me in dance as a little kid, and then my siblings and I did a lot of community theatre plays and musicals in Colorado.”

Where are you from originally? “Pueblo, Colorado.”

What are your plans after Tibbits? “I’m finishing my last year at Pace University as a Commercial Dance major!”

What are you most excited to do during your off time in Coldwater? “I love spending time with the cast and exploring Michigan!”
