This annual stand-up comedy event has become a great escape from the winter blues and features three professional comics.
2019 Comedy Fest Comedians
HEADLINER Bengt Washburn
Bengt Washburn was born in Salt Lake City, Utah but grew up in a large Utah town (1,200 people) as the fifth child in a small Mormon family (7 children). Bengt is married to an officer in the United States Airforce. They have lived in 6 different cities over the last eleven years. Most recently he moved to Springfield, Virginia (Washington D.C.) after living in Stuttgart, Germany for 3 years.
Bengt is a former winner of the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition. He has been seen on The Late Late Show with Craig Fergusen, Live at Gotham on Comedy Central and most recently Conan on TBS. He was invited to perform at the Vancouver International Comedy Festival, The Boston Comedy Festival, the Aspen Laff Festival and Gilda’s Laugh Fest in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
He’s been heard on NPR, PRI and Bob and Tom. All three of his comedy Cd’s can be heard playing on XM Sirius radio.
Most people who know him would say Bengt is a logistically impaired ditz, but his comedy is described as intelligent, surprisingly universal considering the content matter and profoundly funny.
FEATURED COMIC Mark Chalifoux
Stand-up comedian Chalifoux, called a “hilarious up-and-comer” by College Humor, has been featured on Fox and IFC as well as on the “Bob and Tom” national radio show. His Midwestern upbringing contributes to the laid-back, relatable style that belies a sharp-wit and unflinching honesty honed through his rise in the comedy clubs of New York City. He’s been featured in the Boston Comedy Festival, the Limestone Comedy Festival and the Laughing Skull Comedy Festival (among others). His jokes have been heard on SiriusXM and read in Reader’s Digest (a magazine for the elderly) and he’s written for ESPN and CBS Digital.
EMCEE Gerrit Elzinga
At the ripe young age of 14, Gerrit Elzinga became interested in stand-up comedy. He started writing his own material, submersing himself in HBO and Comedy Central Presents specials. Finally working up his own courage at 15, he performed at subsequent high school talent shows and his local comedy club.
Hailing from the small town of Marne, Gerrit was always able to see the humor in the most miniscule of things. Upon graduating, Gerrit moved on to bigger and better things, including Grand Rapids’ 2014 Gilda’s Laughfest Comedy Festival, ACME Comedy Co. and Dr. Grins Comedy Club.
