Tibbits - So much more than a Theatre

Press Release

Wine and Music featured at Tibbits

Date:  04/20/2009

COLDWATER, MI—

Wine tasting and music from two outstanding music duos, Jan Krist & Jim Bizer and

Annie & Rod Capps, combine for a unique evening when “Whine, Wine, Wine” returns to Tibbits at 7 pm on Saturday, May 2.

The event is modeled after last year’s successful “Wine, Wine Whine” with a different winery and a new combination of artists and music.  Three of the musicians Krist, Bizer, and Annie Capps are returning, but this year they’re appearing as duos, instead of as soloists like last year.  They are joined by Annie’s husband Rod. The title with the “Whine” in it comes from the artists themselves and their tongue-in-cheek reference to their own music.

Jan Krist and Jim Bizer hail from Detroit, justly famous as Motown, but home to a myriad of musical influences. They met and made music together while still in their teens.  On their own they have each garnered acclaim as songwriters and performers. As a duo, Krist and Bizer add another dimension to their diverse musical spectrum.  Intricately layered instrumental parts and stunning vocal harmonies are just part of the magic.  At the heart is the profound respect and playful interaction the two bring to each other’s songs.

Annie & Rod Capps also bring a number of musical influences together. Over the years, they have performed all styles from rock to musical theatre. While they continue to draw from a carpet bag of genres and influences, what comes out is a hybrid sound all their own.  Genuine and playful, effortless and endearing, this duo has been enchanting audiences with modern day folk songs with a rootsy vibe and a soulful groove.  Married for 13 years and making music together for many more, the Capps have a sound that reflects their deep and intuitive understanding of each other.

Between music sets, Cherry Creek Cellars and Old Schoolhouse Winery will feature their wines for the wine tasting portion of the event.  Nestled in the Irish Hills, this Michigan based winery is owned and operated by John and Denise Burtka fourth generation wine makers.  The Burtka family has been making wines in America for over 100 years. Their award winning wines are made using old-world hand crafting. As a service to patrons, wines tasted at the event may be ordered that night and will be delivered for pick up to Rick’s Party Store at 293 N. Angola Rd.  Wine tasting and music takes place in the intimate historic setting of Tibbits Opera House adding yet another special touch to the evening.

Tickets for the wine tasting and show are $26 and $24 for Tibbits members.  They are available in advance at the Tibbits offices at 93 W. Chicago St, by phone at 517-278-6029, or on line at www.Tibbits.org.
