Ferrante as Groucho |
Press Release
CELEBRATE THE MADNESS & MUSIC OF THE ONE, THE ONLY…GROUCHO!Date: January 23, 2007Coldwater, MI- “Any show that gives us Groucho, Harpo, and Chico plus Margaret Dumont, piano solos, harp solos, ‘Animal Crackers,’ ‘You Bet Your Life,’ songs, pathos, and great comedy must be seen.” – Newsday.
And you can. Here’s how.
Plan to attend “An Evening with Groucho” and celebrate the madness and music of the one, the only…Groucho! Show time is 2 pm on Sunday, February 11, at Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater.
Award-winning actor/director/playwright Frank Ferrante recreates on the Tibbits’ stage his PBS, New York, and London acclaimed portrayal of legendary comedian Groucho Marx in this fast-paced 90 minutes of hilarity. This two-act comedy consists of the best Groucho one-liners, anecdotes, and songs including “Hooray for Captain Spalding” and “Lydia, the Tattooed Lady.”
All it takes is a pair of bushy eyebrows, the prominent mustache, and a pair of wire-rimed glasses and Frank Ferrante transforms into Groucho Marx right before the audience’s eyes – literally.
The audience quickly becomes part of the show as Ferrante ad-libs his way throughout the performance in grand Groucho style. Accompanied by his onstage pianist, Ferrante portrays the young Groucho of stage and film and reacquaints us with the likes of brothers Harpo, Chico, Zeppo, and Gummo; Charlie Chaplin; W. C. Fields; Greta Garbo; Margaret Dumont, and MGM’s Louis B. Mayer. This is a show perfect for all ages.
For his role as Groucho, Ferrante was nominated for an Outer Critics Circle Award and the Laurence Olivier Award for “Comedy Performance of the Year.” As can be expected with these achievements, Ferrante’s performance is flawless.
Join us for “An Evening with Groucho” at 2 pm on Sunday, Feb. 11 at Tibbits, 14 S. Hanchett St., Coldwater. Tickets are $25. Call 517-278-6029 to order your tickets.
