Press Release
Start 2008 Off Right by Misbehavin'Date:01/08/08COLDWATER, MI— “Ain't Misbehavin’” is coming to the stage of the Tibbits Opera House at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25 with 30 show-stopping musical numbers including “I Can’t Give you Anything but Love”, “It’s a Sin to Tell a Lie”, “Two Sleepy People”, “I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter”, “Honeysuckle Rose”, and “The Joint is Jumpin’”.
When “Ain’t Misbehavin’” opened on Broadway in 1978 it made history by winning every Tony award including Best Musical. This show serves as a tribute to the black musicians of the 1920s and '30s who were part of the Harlem Renaissance, an era of growing creativity, cultural awareness, and ethnic pride, and takes its title from the 1929 Fats Waller song ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’”.
This musical is set in a time when Manhattan nightclubs like the Cotton Club and the Savoy Ballroom were the playgrounds of high society and Lenox Avenue dives were filled with piano players banging out the new beat known as swing.
With snazzy period costumes, complete with bowler hats and pearls, the dynamic five-member cast and band present an evening of rowdy, raunchy, and humorous songs like “Your Feets too Big” that showcase the various moods of the era and reflect a view of life as a journey meant for pleasure and play.
“Ain’t Misbehavin’”, a night of entertainment you will not soon forget, is partially sponsored by Consumers Credit Union.
Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for students over 15 years of age, $22 for season ticket holders and are available on line at www.tibbits.org, by calling 517-278-6029 or at the administrative offices at 93 West Chicago Street. All seats are reserved.
