Press Release

“THE GOODBYE GIRL”SAYS “HELLO” TO TIBBITS SUMMER THEATRE

Date:July 21,2008

COLDWATER, MI—

“The Goodbye Girl” comes to Tibbits at 8 pm on Thursday – Saturday, July 24, 25, 26, 31 and August 1, 2 with matinees at 2 pm on Thursday, July 24, and Wednesday, July 30.

Neil Simon’s romantic musical comedy “The Goodbye Girl” is based on Neil Simon’s well-known film of the same name about an unlikely romance between Paula, a bitter, single mother who has been jilted one time too many and Elliot, the opinionated actor who shows up on her doorstep with a lease to sublet her apartment. Set in New York City, this witty and tuneful musical is also a love letter to the city.

Elliot is ably played by Eddie Schnecker who recently toured the country in “Man of La Mancha” and also won an Arizoni award for his portrayal of Eddie Ryan in “Funny Girl.”  The role of Paula is delightfully brought to life by Ft. Wayne native, Jocelyn France, and her daughter, Lucy, is played by Coldwater’s own Natalee Dally.

This modern romantic comedy has a delightful score and is full of the humor that has made Neil Simon a household name. The music is by Marvin Hamlisch who wrote the memorable “They’re Playing Our Song” and “A Chorus Line.”

USA Today reported that the play “leaves you a bit happier to be alive!” Pat Collins, WWOR-TV agreed. “A home run and a major hit! It’s been a long time since you got that goose bump feeling. The American musical has never been in better shape.”

This production is generously sponsored by AM WTVB 1590, the radio station Branch County and its summer visitors turn to for local news and information. Sponsoring a Summer Theatre production is a natural extension of the WTVB programming philosophy. "Tibbits Summer Theatre is such an important part of our community.  We're proud to be a sponsor again this year” said Ken Delaney, Station Manager.
