Tibbits - So much more than a Theatre

Press Release

BUNYAN AND BANJOES COMPLETES POPCORN THEATRE 2008

Date: July 28, 2008

COLDWATER, MI—

Tibbits’ final offering for this summer’s Popcorn Theatre, “Bunyan and Banjoes” at 10 am on Friday and Saturday, August 1 and 2, is presented with the generous support of the Coldwater Exchange Club.

A journey through Michigan’s history led award-winning songwriter and performer Kitty Donohoe to write and discover songs about the “Mitten State.” The songs cover a wide range of subject matter ranging from voyageurs, the rivers and waterways of Michigan, the Mackinac Bridge, and making maple syrup, to the logging and lumberjack era and much, much more. This music program is also laced with riveting Michigan stories such as the classic tale of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox.

Kitty, a multi-instrumentalist, will be using the banjo, guitar, mountain and hammered dulcimers and a concertina in her presentation of this unique look at the Great Lake State of Michigan.

According to Ron Budd, president, The Coldwater Exchange Club is “fully committed to Tibbits Opera House and its ongoing cultural and entertainment impact upon the Coldwater community”

The Coldwater Exchange Club, the local chapter of the National Exchange Club, is a longtime, proud sponsor of Tibbits Popcorn Theatre. It is composed of 42 vibrant, highly motivated men and women from all sectors of Branch County, who share an ongoing commitment to the quality of life in this community with a particular emphasis on service to the youth of Branch County.

Join us for a toe tapping grand finale to this season’s Popcorn Theatre at 10 am on August 1 and 2. You will enjoy not only an amazing performance by Kitty Donahoe but also popcorn and juice at intermission, thanks to the generosity of the Capri Drive-In Theatre and McDonald’s of Branch & Hillsdale Counties. As the applause dies down, the performers will meet the audience out front to sign autographs and pose for pictures.
