Tibbits Names Diana Conant Volunteer of the Month

COLDWATER – Beyond providing great entertainment, Tibbits is proud to have dedicated volunteers who are essential to providing a great patron experience for those attending the historic theatre. Tibbits is pleased to name one of their longest-serving volunteers, Diana Conant, as their February Volunteer of the Month.

Conant went to Jackson County Western High School where she wrote a column for the local newspaper. She developed a love for summer stock by attending plays with the owners of the paper who had season tickets to the Barn Theatre in Augusta. Conant and her family moved to Coldwater on 4th of July weekend in 1976 and she immediately began to see plays at Tibbits.

In 1981, Conant and her friend began volunteering at Tibbits where they even wore semi-formal dresses to usher. Since then she has worked in the gift shop, assisted at the bar, folded programs, stuffed envelopes, and donated items to and assisted with the annual auction. Conant and her husband have been members of the Tibbits Opera Foundation for many years.

Diana Conant has been named Tibbits’ February Volunteer of the Month for performing multiple volunteer roles to help the historic theatre.

In addition to volunteering at Tibbits, Conant is the president of the Mothers of Twins group, secretary of the Early Bird Exchange Club, and is a Michigan State basketball fan. What she enjoys most about volunteering for Tibbits is that it is a different form of volunteering and involves all types of people for the variety of jobs in theatre.

Conant said, “Many people think the only volunteers that Tibbits needs are ushers, but that’s far from the truth.” She adds, “It’s a great way to give back to the community…and the people are pretty nice too!”

In recognition for her service, Conant has been awarded a $25 Coldwater Area Chamber of Commerce debit card. The Volunteer of the Month is chosen based on hours, service, management and any special talents or experience they may offer. The decision may depend upon a particular event or project, or for general support for the theatre and the performing arts.

Tibbits welcomes volunteers in theatre roles including ushering, working at the Ghost Light Bar, assisting in the office, sorting archival materials, decorating, and much more.
