Tibbits Auction Grosses Nearly $70K

Tibbits staff and event volunteers gathered before the event began. With the theme “Bond, James Bond” Tibbits 43rd Annual Auction featured online bidding as well as the live event and grossed nearly $70,000.

COLDWATER, MI – With a Bond, James Bond theme, Tibbits 43rd Annual Auction raised nearly $70,000 Saturday, November 5 with its combined online bidding and live auction event at the Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater.

With decorations reminiscent of the classic films and the Ian Fleming character, an appreciative crowd enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, a bar featuring martinis, “shaken not stirred,” while the memorable title songs of the Bond films piped throughout the theatre. The live event opened with a bond-inspired introduction. Throughout the evening attendees enjoyed video highlights from Tibbits Young Audiences, Tibbits Summer Theatre and Tibbits volunteers at work or play! Darin Spieth and Dan Satow of Spieth & Satow Auctioneers led participants through an evening of high bids. Ken Delaney served as Master of Ceremonies.

The full event featured over 350 auction items. Most of the bidding took place via the website with sections closing daily starting Wednesday and concluding Saturday night after the live event had already ended.

Following the auction, Tibbits Board President Chris Donbrock said, “I’d like to thank our outstanding staff and volunteers for the countless hours they put into pulling this auction together, and their creativity that went along with the theme.” He added, “I’d also like to thank our patrons and supporters for their generous donations that help in the operation of our beautiful old theater.”

Dinners and special experiences highlighted the items up for bid and garnered some very generous donations. High bids for the evening came from three separate dinners donated by Kathy and Rick Merrill, one of which teams with Two Bandits Brewing. High bids on other experiences were donated by Keiss Jewelry, PNC Bank, Southern Michigan Bank, Royal Auto Group, Clemens and Century Bank and Trust along with Ed Lake. This year’s Barton S. Tibbits Sponsorship which gives the high bidder four tickets to every event at the theatre was purchased by Penny and Ed Geishert.

Winners of the auction raffle sponsored by Great Lakes Chiropractic were Richard Hess $1000 first prize which he donated back to the theatre, Mike Pridgeon $250 second prize which he also donated back to the theatre, and Rhonda Ives two Tibbits Summer Theatre season tickets third prize. Kate Gordon won the registration raffle for two tickets to a Tibbits show. Kathy Brown won the 50-50 drawing.

Bond, James Bond: Tibbits’ Annual Fundraiser Goes Live for Preview

COLDWATER – Tibbits “Bond, James Bond” auction has opened for item preview online with bidding to begin Tues. Nov 1 in the theatre’s 43rd annual fundraiser. The main ticketed event, featuring a reception and live auction, will be held Sat. Nov. 5.

The Ian Fleming-inspired auction features almost 350 items, mostly online. Participants can bid from the comfort of their homes any time of day. Items are broken into sections with staggered daily closings. In honor of the characters within the Bond films, sections are ‘Moneypenny’ closing Wed. Nov. 2; ‘Q’ closing Thurs. Nov. 3; and ‘M’ closing Fri. Nov. 4. All close at 8 pm. The final section, ‘Felix Leiter’ closes Saturday at 8:30 pm following the live auction. The online registration fee is $5 per person, which also enters bidders into a drawing for a pair of tickets to a Tibbits event in 2023.

The live event on Saturday, Nov. 5 begins at 6 pm with a reception in the Tibbits Art Gallery with hors d’oeuvres, cash bar and live music. The live auction, with Spieth & Satow Auctioneers & Appraisers, begins at 7 pm. Following the live action, guests may continue bidding on the ‘Felix Leiter’ items from their phones while socializing. Tickets to the live event are $20 in advance or $25 at the door and currently available at Tibbits.org. Organizers stress those unable to attend may call the office during the week to arrange proxy bids on the live items.

A time-honored tradition, Tibbits’ Auction is the social event of the year. According to Christine Delaney, Tibbits Executive Director, “We have a fun theme this year and the community has been very supportive with some fabulous donations. I really think we have something for everyone. We look forward to seeing people at the theatre, but it’s nice to be a part of the auction, online from wherever you are.”

Tibbits Seeking Donations for Annual Auction in November

COLDWATER – Tibbits’ 43rd Annual Auction, “Bond, James Bond” takes inspiration from Ian Fleming’s iconic character, stepping off the big screen into the Opera House and online this November for the historic theatre’s main fundraising event. 

This hybrid auction including the in-person exclusive social event of the year is back, bigger than ever combining in-person, by phone, and by app opportunities with multiple days to enjoy the fun. Plans for the auction are underway and volunteers and staff are busy collecting the donations like gadgets and resources Special Agent 007 will need to successfully save the world, or at least raise funds for the programming and operations of the historic theatre. 

Businesses and individuals are encouraged to participate. Donations can be goods, services or monetary donations. Past items have included art, baskets, fine jewelry, get-away packages, gift certificates, home décor, tools, equipment, crafts, holiday items, family experiences, sports and theatre tickets, dinners, parties, and other special events.

2021 Tibbits auction volunteers and staff stepped into the world of “Phantom of the Opera.” Join her Majesty’s secret service at Tibbits’ 43rd annual auction November 1-5, 2022.

“Bond, James Bond” will feature bidding online for the silent auctions. The silent auction will be divided into sections – Moneypenny, Q, and M along with a special super silent auction, Felix Leiter– in honor of the film’s characters. Bidding for each online silent auction section will close on consecutive days, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday November 2-5. The silent auction registration fee is $5 per person, which also enters bidders into a drawing for a pair of tickets to a Tibbits event in 2023.

Item photos will be available on the special auction website with an item list available at Tibbits.org. Sites will be updated weekly in October as donations arrive. All silent auction items go live for bidding November 1. Saturday’s event honoring Special Agent 007 will feature hors d’oeuvres, cash bar and the entertainment of the live auction with Spieth and Satow Auctioneers. Tickets are $20.

Tibbits staff will be available in advance and throughout the auction days to assist patrons with registration, bidding, or any other auction needs.

Cash sponsorships by individual donors or businesses are also needed and will be broken into five themed categories:  Diamonds are Forever, $1000+; Goldeneye, $500-999; Casino Royale, $250-499; Skyfall, $125-249; and Goldfinger, $75-124.

Annual Auction Raises $79K!

Tibbits staff and event volunteers gathered before the event began. With the theme “Auction at the Opera House” Tibbits 42nd Annual Auction featured online bidding as well as the live event and grossed over $79,000.

COLDWATER, MI – Tibbits 42nd Annual Auction raised over $79,000 Saturday, November 6 with a hybrid combination of online bidding and live auction at the Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater, a record amount for the historic theatre’s major fundraising event.

With a “Phantom of the Opera” theme “Auction at the Opera House” the live event began with a reception and live music provided by Randall Hazelbaker.  The onstage portion opened with an audio clip from the Broadway musical and the dramatic lighting of the theatre’s historic chandelier.  Darin Spieth and Dan Satow of Spieth & Satow Auctioneers led participants through an evening of high bids. Ken Delaney served as Master of Ceremonies.

The full event featured over 450 auction items. Most of the bidding took place via the website with sections closing daily starting Wednesday and concluding Saturday night after the live event had already ended.

According to Tibbits Board President Chris Donbrock, “Our Tibbits staff did a great job with this event. They retained what worked well last year with the silent auction and brought back some of what we loved about past live auctions. I think everyone who was there liked the improvements.”  He added, “We owe a huge thank you to all of the donors, bidders and sponsors who showed their support of our community’s gem. The community’s support for Tibbits is wonderful.”

Tibbits Sponsorship which gives the high bidder four tickets to every event at the theatre was purchased by Kaiser Electric, Jim and Renee White, David and Caroline Austin, and Paul and Kathy Bair.

Winners of the auction raffle sponsored by Great Lakes Chiropractic were Vena Wade $1000 first prize which she donated back to the theatre, Mike Clark $250 second prize, and Angie Marsh two Tibbits Summer Theatre season tickets third prize. Shannon Lemke won the registration raffle for two tickets to a Summer Theatre show.

It will become another unique event in true Tibbits fashion combining in-person, by phone, and by app opportunities with multiple times to enjoy the fun. Plans for the auction with its “Phantom of the Opera” theme are underway and volunteers and staff are busy collecting the donations needed to make the event a success.

Businesses and individuals are encouraged to participate. Donations can be goods, services or monetary donations. Past items have included art, baskets, fine jewelry, get-away packages, gift certificates, home décor, tools, equipment, crafts, holiday items, family experiences, sports and theatre tickets, dinners, parties, and other special events.

Tibbits’ First Virtual Auction Raises Over $51K

COLDWATER, MI – Tibbits 41st Annual Auction took on a brand new form as the event went totally virtual Saturday, November 7, 2020 still raising $51,200 for the Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater, Michigan.

With the theme “CLUE! The Game is On” the live-stream event filmed in the empty opera house still led viewers through a portion of the auction in which bidding was live via online bidding. The 45-minute “show” featured Ken Delaney as Master of Ceremonies, Darin Spieth and Dan Satow of Spieth & Satow Auctioneers, Tibbits Executive Director Christine Delaney and Operations Director Stephanie Burdick. Home Town Media produced the event.

With the theme “CLUE! The Game is On” Tibbits 41st Annual Auction was highlighted by a live-stream event filmed in the empty opera house which led viewers through the “live” online auction bidding. The 45-minute “show” featured Ken Delaney as Master of Ceremonies, Tibbits Executive Director Christine Delaney Dan Satow and Darin Spieth of Spieth & Satow Auctioneers, and Tibbits Operations Director Stephanie Burdick.

Most of the event featured nearly 400 silent auction items up for bid via the website with sections closing Thursday, Friday and Saturday. A Super Silent Section, featuring many of the items which in the past would have been on the live auction, encouraged bidding through the evening, closing after the live auction.  According to Christine Delaney, “The initial response is people enjoyed the new format, but we all hope we can return to an in-person event for next year.”

TIBBITS FUNDRAISING AUCTION GOES ON(LINE) IN NOVEMBER

COLDWATER – Get in the game with Tibbits’ 41st Annual Auction, Clue! The Game is On!, featuring five days of online fun with silent auctions Nov 3-7 and a live-stream live auction on Nov 7 at 7pm.

Over 300 items will be up for bid at what has become one of the historic theatre’s most entertaining benefit events. “With a creative new spin, the show will go on,” according to Christine Delaney, Tibbits Executive Director. “Like so many fundraising events in our community, the proceeds play an important role to our budget helping cover daily operations and maintenance of the 138-year-old theatre. We had to reimagine the event just like we reimagined Summer Theatre.”

Spieth and Satow Auctioneers will lead the auction which will be live streamed by Hometown Media Network. With the limitations of time for the live stream, it will feature about 12 items offered “live.” A special “Super Silent” silent auction will host other coveted items normally found in the live auction. Live and super silent items include unique dinners and experiences, jewelry, vacation getaways to Escanaba, Mackinac Island and Antigua, flowers each month for a year, handcrafted furniture, gym memberships and golf excursions, radio advertising, and more.

The rest of the items will be part of the silent auction which spans three days. These items include antiques, gift cards to area businesses, an assortment of gift baskets, household items, sports memorabilia, children’s items, art, entertainment and decor. All silent auctions open for bidding at 9am on Nov. 3. The silent auction will be divided into sections – Scarlet, Mustard, and Plum – in honor of the game characters. Bidding for each section will close on consecutive days, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Tibbits’ annual auction will feature five days of online fun with silent auctions Nov. 3-7 and a live-stream auction on Nov. 7. Tibbits staff and volunteers have been busy collecting and cataloging donations to upload to the auction website at Tibbits.org.

The live auction at 7pm on Nov. 7 will be a streamed event starting at 6:30pm with a preview of items. Bidding during the live event will be online and through prior arrangement. Super Silent items will be featured during the live auction but will close 30 minutes after the live auction ends.

Participation in the event is easy, COVID safe, and can be done from the comfort of your home. An auction link at Tibbits.org has a preview of auction items with photos and descriptions. New items are added daily. Patrons can register at $5 per bidder account on the auction website, which also enters bidders into a drawing for a pair of tickets to a Tibbits event in 2021.

In-person viewings of the items are available by scheduling an appointment the week of Nov. 3 in socially-distanced groups at the historic Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater, MI.  Tibbits staff and trained volunteers will be available in advance and throughout the item-viewing appointments to assist patrons with registration, bidding, or any other auction needs. Once bidding opens the site allows users to bid, set up maximum bids and even receive notifications.

The Auction also features a large raffle sponsored by Great Lakes Chiropractic. Prizes are $1000, $250, and Tibbits Summer Theatre season tickets. Raffle tickets are still available for $10 at the Tibbits Administrative Offices at 93 W. Chicago Street in Coldwater.

“A Spoonful of Sugar” Auction Will Step in Time November 2

COLDWATER –Chim, chimney; Chim chimney; Chim, chim cher-ee! Tibbits 40th Annual Auction, “A Spoonful of Sugar” will step in time November 2 at Tibbits Opera House.

Over 600 items will be up for bid at what has become one of the historic theatre’s most entertaining benefit events. Proceeds help with daily operations and maintenance of the theatre, built in 1882.  The silent auction will begin at 6 PM and the live auction at 8 PM.   The evening includes food and cash bar.

This event features a special theme each year, making it a time-honored tradition in the community.  This year volunteers and staff will transform the theatre into the world of Mary Poppins featuring costumes, decorations, and plenty of supercalifragilisticexpialidocious fun.

Current items up for bid in the live auction include a host of unique dinners, tours, and packages including four club seats with food and beverage to a Detroit Red Wing’s game donated by PNC Bank, Ring video doorbell and Amazon Echo donated by Century Bank and Trust, one floral arrangement per month for a year donated by Bronson Floral, one week stay from Potawatomie Campground and Recreation Area, two tickets to The Simon and Garfunkel Story at Fox Theatre donated by 313 Presents, and much more. Silent auction items up for bid include antiques, gift cards to area businesses, an assortment of gift baskets, small furniture, household items, sports memorabilia, children’s items, and craft supplies.

COLDWATER – Embrace the magical world of Mary Poppins and join in on the supercalifragilisticexpialidocious fun with Tibbits’ 40th Annual Auction, “A Spoonful of Sugar” Saturday, November 2, 2019.

Plans for the auction with its Mary Poppins theme are underway and volunteers and staff are busy collecting the donations needed to make the event a success. Businesses and individuals are encouraged to participate. Donations can be goods, services or monetary donations. Past items have included art, baskets, fine jewelry, get-away packages, gift certificates, home décor, garden tools, equipment, crafts, holiday items, sports and theatre tickets, dinners, parties, and other special events. Donations of wine are also accepted for the “The Most Delightful Medicine Wine Pull.”

Cash donations are also needed and will be broken into four categories:  The Chimney Sweeps: $600 and over, The Lamp Lighters: $300 and over, The Carousel Horses: $100 and over, and The Bankers: $50 and over.

Tibbits auction has become a community tradition recognized for the fun and social atmosphere. It features unique items both in the silent auction in the lower level art gallery and in the live auction on stage. The entire theatre is decorated in the theme with costumed volunteers, beverages at the Ghost Light Bar, and hearty hors d’oeuvres provided by Tasteful Kreations. Attendees are also encouraged to dress in the theme.

“A Spoonful of Sugar” will be held at the historic Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater, MI. Admission to the auction is $5 per person, with that fee credited towards any silent or live auction purchases, excluding wine and raffle purchases. The silent auction will start at 6 pm and the live auction at 8 pm. This year’s event also features a 50/50 raffle and a $1,000 cash raffle, sponsored by Great Lakes Chiropractic.

To donate to the Tibbits Annual Auction, drop your items off Monday through Friday 9-5 at the Tibbits administrative office, 93 W. Chicago Street, Coldwater, or call Angie at 517.278.6029 to arrange for a volunteer to pick it up. Donation deadline is Oct. 18. Donations must be new, vintage, or gently used in clean condition.
