Comedy “Alone Together Again” Opens August 6
COLDWATER – The humor of aging and the sandwich generation takes center stage as Tibbits Summer Theatre presents “Alone Together Again” opening August 6 as the final show of the professional summer season.
With the unexpected arrival of their elderly but active parents and their problems, the allure of an empty nest evades Helena and George Butler, played by Debbie Culver and Alan Elliott. The couple, after 30 years of raising three sons, is looking forward to being alone together again. Their dream of a new life is rudely interrupted by the arrival of Helen’s father, Pop, played by Ken Prewitt who has decided upon a trial separation from his wife while he designs a robot. His wife Ruth, played by Gloria Logan, arrives shortly afterwards to make sure he takes his medicine. If that pair isn’t enough to destroy the Butler’s domestic bliss, George’s mother Grace, played by Donna Adams Schulte, also arrives to stay while her house is being fumigated.
The comedy written by Lawrence Roman tackles the tribulations of middle age, the emotional roller-coaster
of the sandwich generation, as well as the ever present concern of dealing with aging.
According to Charles Burr, Tibbits Artistic Director and director of the show, “‘Alone Together Again’ sounds like a sequel to last summer’s ‘Alone Together,’ but it really isn’t. It was written 20 years later as a standalone play.” Burr adds, “It certainly has that same sense of familiarity. Those people on stage and what they’re going through is so much like what many of us are facing. It’s great to laugh and see the humor in ourselves and our cast is very funny.” Regular attendees will recognize most of the cast as long-time Tibbits veterans.
“Alone Together Again” is sponsored by Satek Winery of Fremont Indiana. Owners Larry and Pam Satek have been supporting Tibbits Summer Theatre since 2008.
