Diane Godfrey Named Tibbits September Volunteer of the Month
COLDWATER – Tibbits has named Diane Godfrey as its September volunteer of the month for her dedication to the historic theatre as a long-time houser and organizer of its archival materials.
A long-time supporter, Godfrey first became involved with Tibbits in 1994 when she and her husband Stan housed for Tibbits Summer Theatre. She has been a houser off and on for over 25 years. She was a Tibbits tour guide for several years, but most recently can be found in the Tibbits Administrative Offices twice a week organizing and filing archival material.

Hailing from Boyne City, Michigan, Godfrey has called Coldwater home for more than two decades. She retired in 2010 from Quincy Schools after 20 years of teaching 4th grade at Jennings Elementary. She is President of Young Michigan Dances, Coldwater’s own dance company, and is an active member of the Coldwater United Methodist Church.
Godfrey enjoys listening to classical music, attending live TST shows, and reading poetry. Producing children’s theatre for Young Michigan Dances is near and dear to her heart as is her volunteer work at church. Walking and spending quality time with family and friends is always a top priority in her life.
Of her recent involvement with Tibbits, Godfrey says, “I love discovering some new photo or article that hasn’t been seen before. It’s exciting to be that close to the history of the Tibbits and to be the ‘first to find’ it! It’s very rewarding. I also love the lifelong relationships I’ve made over the years at the Tibbits. My life is so rich because of them.” She continued to say, “The Arts are awesome! Be a part of them!”
The Volunteer of the Month is chosen by Tibbits staff. Selection is based on the hours and/or service, as well as leadership, special skills or expertise shared. Criteria may be project specific or general support and volunteerism. In recognition of this award, Godfrey received a $25 Coldwater Area Chamber of Commerce Debit Card.
Tibbits is always looking for more volunteers in a variety of areas: ushering, working the gift shop or concessions, doing general office help, sorting archival materials, planting flowers, decorating the theatre, and much more. Those interested in volunteering should contact Tirsha Odisher at Tibbits at 517-278-6029 or boxoffice@Tibbits.org. Tibbits Opera House is located at 14 S.
