Dixie Swim Club opens this week

COLDWATER –Tibbits Entertainment Series opens its 2013-14 season with the comedy “The Dixie Swim Club” on Friday and featuring the same professional summer theatre style Tibbits has been presenting for 50 years.
The story centers around five unforgettable women who get together annually over a span of 33 years at the same beach cottage on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. As their lives unfold and the years pass, they increasingly rely on one another. Together, through advice and raucous repartee, they tackle life’s many challenges—men, sex, marriage, parenting, divorce and aging.
The show, written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten features a cast of five very funny ladies: Gloria Logan, Suzanne Ogden Stewart, Deborah Culver, Nancy Lipschultze and Nicole Savitt. All of the women with the exception of Savitt have been a part of Tibbits Summer Theatre in the past. Both Logan and Stewart were here for the season which just closed. Logan played Betty Meeks in “The Foreigner” and Stewart made her mark as Golda in “Fiddler on the Roof.”
Each cast member plays a strong Southern woman. Their friendships began as they were teammates on their college swim team. The will make audiences laugh, cry, be surprised, and appreciate those friendships that last forever.
Charles Burr, artistic director for Tibbits Summer Theatre and director for “Dixie Swim Club” affectionately refers to the show as “‘Steel Magnolias’ in bathing suits.” He adds, “It has that same genuine feel of real characters, and familiar situations, great humor and still a poignancy.”
“The Dixie Swim Club” is part of the Tibbits Opera House’s Entertainment Series and Tibbits’ commitment to providing quality entertainment all year.
