Emperor’s New Clothes Opens Popcorn Theatre
COLDWATER – An emperor in his underwear, a basket of gold, and a sly tailor weave together a morning of fun in the upcoming Tibbits Popcorn Theatre show, “The Emperor’s New Clothes” opening Friday, June 24, 2016.
Peter, the mischievous tailor, comes up with his sure-fire, get-rich-quick scheme. Peter wants to embarrass a vain emperor and make off with a basket of gold. He concocts a scheme which has everyone believing how well dressed the emperor is when in reality…well things aren’t quite what they seem. The Hans Christian Anderson story has entertained families for over 150 years and this adaptation by Kathryn Schultz Miller is one children will love.

Directed by Charles Burr, the cast includes Joey Gugliemelli and Ben Shimkus, both returning Tibbits Summer Theatre actors, and first year company member, Emma Thomas.
“The Emperor’s New Clothes” is presented with the generous support of Matthew C. Christopher, DDS, PC. Tibbits Summer Theatre’s 2016 Popcorn Theatre season is also presented with support from Dr. Jon and Seibra Herbener, Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The delightful comedy runs June 24 and 25, as well as July 1 and 2, 2016. All performances are at 10 am and include free popcorn and juice at intermission. Juice is graciously provided by McDonald’s of Branch and Hillsdale Counties. Popcorn is provided with support from Dr. Ed Lake, Dr. David Hartfiel and Community Health Center Obstetrics & Gynecology.
Popcorn Theatre is perfect entertainment for the entire family and a great introduction to live theatre. It’s a wonderful opportunity for children to experience theatre “just for them.” To make the experience even more enjoyable, they get an opportunity to meet the actors and get autographs following each performance. Bring the entire family for a great time.
