Flashback to the 1950s, poodle skirts, saddle shoes, sock hops and rock and roll and join the fun with “Tibbits at the Hop,” the theme for the theatre’s 39th annual auction, Saturday, November 3, 2018.
Plans for the auction are underway and volunteers and staff are busy collecting the donations needed to make the event a success. Businesses and individuals are encouraged to participate. Donations can be goods, services or monetary donations. Past items have included art, baskets, fine jewelry, get-away packages, gift certificates, home décor, garden tools, equipment, crafts, holiday items, sports and theatre tickets, dinners, parties, and other special events. Donations of wine are also accepted for the “Roller Gals Wine Pull.”
Cash donations are also needed and will be broken into four catergories: Chevrolet Bel Air: $50 and over, Buick Roadmaster: $100 and over, Ford Thunderbird: $300 and over, and Cadillac Coupe Deville: $600 and over.
Tibbits auction has become a community tradition recognized for the fun and social atmosphere. It features unique items both in the silent auction in the lower level art gallery and in the live auction on stage. The entire theatre is decorated in the theme with costumed volunteers, beverages at the Ghostlight Bar, and hearty hors d’oeuvres provided by Tasteful Kreations. Attendees are also encouraged to dress in the theme.
Tibbits Special Events Coordinator Amy Crabtree says, “Tibbits Auction has become the signature event for the theatre. It is so much fun. People come from all over, they have a great time, and then they’re excited to bring their friends the next year.” She adds, “You can have fun, get your Christmas shopping done and support the arts all at once.”
“Tibbits at the Hop” will be held at the historic Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater, MI. The silent auction will start at 6 pm and the live auction at 8 pm. This year’s event also features a $1,000 cash raffle, sponsored by Great Lakes Chiropractic. Guests will have a chance at 50/50 tickets, a photo booth, and engraved souvenir wine glasses.
