Get Ready to Cut Footloose!
COLDWATER- The rock-n-roll musical Footloose bursts onto the stage Thursday, July 27 and runs through August 5 at Tibbits in Coldwater, MI.
Based on the mega-hit film from 1984 of the same name, Footloose is about high school student Ren and his mother who have recently moved from Chicago to a small farming town. Even though he is prepared for the inevitable adjustments that come with small-town life, Ren is not at all prepared for the strict local edicts meant to keep the town’s teenagers under control, including a ban on dancing, instituted by the local minister Shaw Moore. Ren’s troubles continue to compound when Moore’s rebellious daughter, Ariel, sets her sights on him. Aggravated by this, Ariel’s roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation and many of the locals are all too eager to believe the worst about the new kid.
Emerging from this tension is a heartfelt story of a father damaged by the loss of a son and a young man longing for the father who walked out on him. Set to the original Oscar and Tony nominated soundtrack and augmented with a few new songs, Footloose celebrates the wisdom it requires to guide young people with an open mind.
Written by the original film’s screenwriter Dean Pitchford and American theatre director/choreographer Walter Bobbie, Footloose is directed by Charles Burr with choreography by Dougie Robbins, music direction by Steven Zumbrun, scenic design by Frank Blackmore, costume design by Marc W. Vital II, lighting design by Catie Blencowe, and props by Hannah Cormier.
Footloose is presented with the support of Vandervoort, Christ & Fisher, P.C., who have supported the Tibbits as a Summer Theatre sponsor for the past 15 seasons.
