MONSTER FEST RETURNS AND ITS BIGGER THAN EVER!
COLDWATER – On Saturday, October 27 at 5:30pm, Tibbits Opera House will present an evening long Halloween event by combining the monster movie marathon MONSTER FEST with the Coldwater Halloween parade.
In the world of movie trilogies, there is usually an attempt to make the third chapter bigger in scope and sometimes a little ridiculous. That is the mindset that was suggested when Tibbits began to plan its annual Halloween movie night MONSTER FEST 3. What could be better than two classic monster movies on the big screen at Halloween, complete with salty popcorn and a cold soda? How about three classic monster movies and a parade! MONSTER FEST 3 will begin with the comedic Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein, which will conclude shortly before the creature feature themed Halloween downtown parade begins. Then continue the night with the B-movie classics Monster on the Campus and The Mole People.
The evening will begin with hilarious masterwork Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein. Count Dracula has devised a fiendish plot to make Frankenstein’s monster easier to control by swapping out the criminally insane brain already in its head, with that of a dimwitted and highly suggestable freight worker Wilbur (Lou Costello). Dracula however has three major obstacles in his way, Wilbur’s best Friend Chick (Bud Abbott), insurance investigator Joan Raymond, and the Wolfman himself (Lon Chaney Jr.).
MONSTER FEST 3 continues after the parade with Monster on the Campus. After a prehistoric fish is exposed to gamma rays, it is brought to a small college campus to be examined by Prof. Donald Blake. Shortly thereafter, several people are killed in what appear to be vicious animal attacks but it is unclear what animal could possibly be responsible. Prof. Blake attempts to identify and capture the alleged beast for study. His research leads him down a dark path and concludes with a truth that even he is not willing to accept.
The evening closes with a film of questionable scientific logic, The Mole People. On a dig in the mountains of northern Asia, an archaeological team discovers the remains of a forgotten city. Soon after, an earthquake exposes the entrance to an unground world inhabited by a pale-skinned race of people who have learned to survive in this low-light environment, mainly by enslaving the land’s true inhabitants, the Mole People. Not liking all the questions being put forth by these victors from above, the high priest demands the strangers be eliminated and the team must survive long enough to find a way back to the surface.
MONSTER FEST 3 is the second installment of the Tibbits Classic Film Series, a 10-part set of monthly double features showcasing Hollywood classics from such genres as sci-fi, noir thrillers, musicals, comedies, and mysteries. The entire Classic Film Series is sponsored by Dr. Matthew Christopher, DDS. Admission to the film series is free unless noted. Concessions, including a cash bar, will be available for purchase.
