MONSTERS RETURN TO STALK THE STAGE OF TIBBITS OPERA HOUSE!
COLDWATER – On Saturday, October 28 at 8:30pm, Tibbits will once again pay tribute to classic and B-movie monsters with its creature double feature…MONSTER FEST 2!
The evening will begin with the tale of atomic age horror from 1954, THEM! When an F.B.I. agent and his family go missing in the deserts of New Mexico, police Sgt. Ben Peterson teams up with F.B.I. agent Bob Graham to find out what happened. The pair soon discovers the disappearances were caused by giant ants whose mutations were caused by the first atomic bomb tests nine years earlier. It is now a race against time to stop THEM before they spread their terror across the globe.
MONSTER FEST 2 continues into the night with the little known, but no less fantastic, The Monster that Challenged the World. After an earthquake hits the Salton Sea, several people, including 2 Navy officers, go missing. Lt. Cmdr. John Twillinger begins a search of the area only to find the earthquake has awoken something from the depths of the Salton Sea, giant mollusk- like creatures. Naval and local authorities go on the hunt to stop the monsters before they can wreak any more havoc.
“This was such a successful event last year and those who attended really seemed to enjoy it. When a nine-year-old kid told me the 1958 version of The Fly was now one of his favorite movies and asked where he could get a copy, we all knew we had to do MONSTER FEST again,” said Tibbits staff member Matt Biolchini.
Though MONSTER FEST 2 is its own event, it is also the first part of The Tibbits Classic Film Series, an 8 part set of monthly double features shown on the big screen. Running from October 2017 to May 2018, the Tibbits Classic Film Series is a way for Tibbits to offer the community of Branch County something different. By showing everything from holiday films and westerns, to classic sci-fi and Abbott & Costello, Tibbits has made sure there is a film for everyone. A full catalog of films, including those shown at MONSTER FEST 2, can be obtained by visiting Tibbits.org and clicking on the Classic Film Series Banner.
MONSTER FEST 2 is sponsored by The UPS Store of Coldwater (517.279.9080). Concessions will be available in the elevator lobby at the brand new Ghost Light Bar. Door prizes will be given out at intermission and local artist/musician Ben Lyon will be playing selections from his extensive collection of 60s-era Halloween-themed novelty records.
The show starts at 8:30pm, following the Coldwater Halloween Parade. Admission is free.
