Old House Maintenance Workshop
Homeowners and Small Commercial Property Owners Invited to Wood Window Repair and Old House Maintenance Workshop in Coldwater
Michigan Historic Preservation Network, in partnership with the Tibbits Opera House and with support from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority and the State Historic Preservation Office, will facilitate a Wood Window Repair and Old House Maintenance Workshop for homeowners and small commercial property owners on Thursday, September 29th, 2016.
A morning walk-through of the house will provide an overview of old building maintenance, what a property owner can do on their own, and when to hire a knowledgeable contractor. Attendees will spend the majority of the day learning how to repair historic wood windows. Hands-on paint removal, glass replacement, and glazing will be demonstrated and participants will have the opportunity to test their skills.
“We find that people love their older buildings and houses, and they want to take good care of them, but they often need a little help in knowing how. These workshops can provide that assistance,” explains Nancy Finegood, Executive Director of the Michigan Historic Preservation Network. “When you repair what you have, you’re saving your property’s original materials and historic character.”
The workshop will be held at the Tibbits’ Cast House – 110 W. Pearl St. – in Coldwater from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm. The registration fee is $10 and advance registration is required. Lunch will be provided. For more information and to register, visit https://coldwaterpreservationworkshop.eventbrite.com or call 517.371.8080.
