Puss in Boots Opens August 4
Date: 07/28/2017
COLDWATER – The crafty cat in boots will come to Tibbits when Puss in Boots opens at Tibbits Opera House on August 4.
Originally written by Giovanni Francesco Straparola in 1550, Puss in Boots has continued to entertain generations of children and adults. Over the years, there have been many interpretations of this clever feline, such as the Dreamworks Animation version from the Shrek films voiced by Antonio Banderas. The character was so popular that he received a spin-off film in 2011.
The Tibbits Popcorn Theatre version is the play written by Michigan playwright Max Bush, who visited the Tibbits Opera House earlier this summer when they produced his version of The Troll and the Elephant Prince. Bush’s version of Puss in Boots is about a poor miller’s son with nothing on his mind except his next meal. He is helped by a bold, enterprising cat and a pair of boots on his quest for fortune, a title, and the hand of a beautiful princess.
This funny, fast-paced story of friendship will have a traditional take on the script with Renaissance costuming. This production is directed by Sean Noonan, with lighting design by Connor Michael, costume design by Elizabeth Theune, scenic design by Leon Kriser, and props by Erin Sagnelli. The cast features the professional Tibbits summer theatre actors, and after each show, actors are happy to sign autographs and pose for photos. Puss In Boots will show August 4, 5, 11, and 12 at 10 am.
Patrons will be treated to free popcorn and juice at intermission. The popcorn is donated by Ed Lake. The juice is donated by McDonald’s-The Maynard Organization. Popcorn Theatre is made possible through the generosity of Dr. Jon and Seibra Herbener and the show sponsor, Matthew C. Christopher, DDS, PC.
Tibbits Opera House offers an intimate historic setting, air conditioning, handicap accessibility, and a Telecoil induction loop for hearing assistance.
