COLDWATER – From textured paintings to upcycled projects to cardboard sculptures, Arts Alive invites artists of all ages and skill levels to submit their interpretations of “Cardboard Creations” in their upcoming themed gallery show which will be displayed at Tibbits Opera House August through October.

While the gallery theme is “Cardboard Creations,” it is up to the artist to interpret exactly what the phrase means to them as long as the entry incorporates cardboard in either the process or final product.

Artists may submit up to three pieces at $5 per submission. Paintings, photographs or drawings should be ready to hang using hanging wire. Sculpture or other mediums are accepted and encouraged as well. Prizes will be awarded to the top artists based on audience votes.  Artists may also sell their work on commission.

To be included in this art show, artists should drop off all pieces at Tibbits’ Administration Office at 93 W. Chicago St before 5pm Monday, August 14. “Cardboard Creations” will be displayed through Monday, October 9 in the lower level art gallery at the historic Tibbits Opera House, located at 14 S. Hanchett St. in Coldwater MI.

The gallery shows rotate approximately every eight weeks. The final 2023 exhibit “Miniatures” will hang Oct 9-Dec 30, with the 2024 gallery themes to be released by November. “Decades” Art Gallery Exhibit Call for Artists

COLDWATER – From flapper dresses and prohibition of the 1920s; to poodle skirts, drive-ins and diners of the 1950s; to the psychedelic, grooviness and even wartime routines of the 1960s and 1970s; Arts Alive invites artists of all ages and skill levels to submit their interpretations of “Decades” in their upcoming themed gallery show which will be displayed at Tibbits Opera House June through August.

While the gallery theme is “Decades,” it is up to the artist to interpret exactly what the phrase means to them.

Kids’ Art Rocks Reception To Celebrate Young Artists

COLDWATER – Arts Alive Kids’ Art Rocks! gallery show at Tibbits Opera House celebrates the work of student artists during May and June, culminating with a reception in their honor at 6pm on Tuesday, June 27.

The juried exhibit features 137 pieces of student artwork on display. Of these, 16 were chosen for the final lease program exhibit. They have been professionally framed and available for lease by area businesses to display for one year.

Lease program winners feature students from preschool through high school. They are Preston Perkins from Anderson Elementary; Pearl Gutierrez and Caroline White from Ryan Elementary;  Blakleigh O’Dell from Lakeland Elementary;  Margaret Heminger from Max Larsen; Felicity Berry and Liam Willison from Jennings Elementary; Tia Obare from Jefferson Elementary; Caiden Searing, Claire Stroup, and Gemma McVicker from Legg Middle School; Charlotte DeGraff from Battle Creek Lakeview; Shakurah Muqit and Morgan Baker from Coldwater High School; Allie Jameson from Will Carleton Academy; and homeschooler Iain Gaebler.

Reception doors open at 6pm for viewing and People’s Choice voting during the open-house style gathering in the lower-level art gallery. Light refreshments will be provided. The presentation of prizes and art supply giveaways for young artists in attendance will begin around 6:45pm on the terrace in front of Tibbits, weather permitting. All artwork not chosen for the year-long lease will be available for pickup immediately following the reception. Businesses that attend the reception will have first choice of artwork for the lease program.

The gallery shows rotate approximately every six weeks in the lower level art gallery of Tibbits Opera House, located at 14 S. Hanchett St. in Coldwater, Michigan. There is no charge to view the gallery, which is open before and during all Tibbits events or by appointment Monday-Friday 9-5. Once the Kids’ Art Rocks! gallery show concludes, local artists are invited to participate in “Decades”, “Cardboard Creations” and “Miniatures”. Student Artists Wanted for Spring Kids’ Art Rocks! Contest

COLDWATER – From underwater scenes to still-lifes, portraits, and abstract art, student artists interested in entering their artwork in Arts Alive’s annual Kids’ Art Rocks! art contest and exhibit should submit their artwork to the Tibbits Admin Offices by March 21, 2023.

This spring contest offers prizes including art supply giveaways plus the opportunity for young artists to have their artwork framed and displayed in a local business. Students from preschool to grade 12 are encouraged to submit their artwork for the annual show and contest to be displayed at the Tibbits Opera House Art Gallery from May 2 to June 27.

Kids’ Art Rocks! has recognized almost 600 pieces of student art since the program’s inception. There is no cost to enter and each student may submit one piece.  Artwork should be flat or on canvas, must be unframed, be a minimum size of 8” x 10”, and also be appropriate to hang in a business.

All artwork will be presented in an exhibit in Tibbits Art Gallery for the community to enjoy. The exhibit will be juried and pieces chosen for the final exhibit will be professionally framed and entered into the art lease program for businesses to sponsor and display for one year.

A reception will be held on Tuesday June 27 from 6-7pm for all artists and their families as well as the general public. Young artists in attendance will be eligible for art supply giveaways. Businesses that attend the reception will have first choice of student artwork. Students who do not win the year-long lease program will be able to take their artwork home with them at the close of the reception.

COLDWATER – From robin’s eggs to sparkling sapphires, pretty peacocks to calming seascapes, the color blue will hang prominently in Arts Alive’s upcoming art gallery “Hues of Blue.” The art group invites artists of all ages and skill levels to submit their interpretations of the themed show which will hang at Tibbits Opera House March through May.

While the gallery theme is “Hues of Blue,” it is up to the artist to interpret exactly what the phrase means to them. Artists may submit up to three pieces at $5 per submission. Paintings, photographs or drawings should be ready to hang using hanging wire. Sculpture or other mediums are accepted and encouraged as well. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top artists based on audience votes.  Artists may also sell their work on commission.

Arts Alive member Stephanie Burdick said, “I’m hoping to get some beautiful depictions of bluebirds, ocean scenes, floral works or even abstract art. Usually our color shows attract a good quantity and variety of artwork because some artists need set boundaries. Others will welcome the freedom and challenge of the show’s parameters.”

COLDWATER – From family pets to zoo animals and everything in between, Art’s Alive’s January art gallery exhibit “Fur Babies” invites artists of all ages to submit their interpretations of the themed show which will hang at Tibbits Opera House January 3 through March 7, 2022.

Artists may submit up to three pieces at $5 per submission. Paintings, photographs or drawings should be ready to hang using hanging wire. Sculpture or other mediums are accepted and encouraged as well. While the theme is “Fur Babies,” it is up to the artist to interpret exactly what the phrase means to them. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top artists based on audience votes.  Artists can also sell their work on commission.

Hometown Artist Seth Pitt Featured in Tibbits Art Gallery

COLDWATER –  Conceptual cartoonist Seth Pitt will display a collection of his artwork in a solo exhibition in the Tibbits Art Gallery from March 9 through May 8.

Originally from Union City, Michigan, Pitt currently lives and works out of Thomas, West Virginia. There, he keeps a studio and gallery named “Creature” where he spends a lot of his time creating things overflowing his studio.

Pitt describes his illustration work as ‘conceptual cartoon.’ He says, “I try to deal with concepts that are far reaching and relatable at the same time. I believe that most of the really important things we deal with, we share, regardless of our place in society, our upbringing or our age.” He adds, “Kids at 7 years old and folks at age 70 have a lot in common when you get down to what they’re really seeking from this life or pondering from day to day.”

Originally from Union City, Michigan, conceptual cartoonist Seth Pitt currently lives and works at his studio and gallery named “Creature” out of Thomas, West Virginia. He will display a collection of his artwork in a solo exhibition in the Tibbits Art Gallery from March 9 through May 8. 

He continued, “That being said, I like to walk the line between a simple children’s story and worthwhile book of poetry. The majority of the most meaningful revelations that I’ve come to in my life are, at once, deeply profound, oddly silly, and simple. This is the type of art I’ve always been drawn to, and I feel really lucky that I now get to spend my time creating it.”

A self-taught artist who never went to art school, Pitt couldn’t even draw a shoe very well when he was young. He spent the majority of his youth believing that he was not an artist at all. While he still cannot draw a shoe very well, he happily concluded that the ability to do so has no consequence on whether or not one should be making art. The majority of Pitt’s work tends to huddle around small magic and the things humanity finds camaraderie in.

Aside from making art, he deeply enjoys writing, looking at clouds, walking in the woods, marveling at the innate brilliance of common things and having small parades with the fine people he’s been lucky enough to come to know and love. He considers daydreaming essential, wonder important and an unyielding reverence for life boundlessly imperative.

Seth Pitt’s solo exhibition will hang from March 9 until May 8, 2020 in the Tibbits Opera House Art Gallery. The gallery is open during all events and by appointment Monday through Friday. Call (517) 278-6029 to schedule a viewing. There is no admission charge.
