COLDWATER – The upbeat, stylish renditions of the best traditional live jazz songs from “The Great American Songbook” will fill the historic Tibbits Opera House when the BLT Jazz Trio performs live in concert Sunday, September 25.

The BLT Jazz Trio consists of three recognized artists, concert violinist Barry Ross, vocalist Lana Hoffman, and jazz pianist Terry Lower. This performance will also include special guest drummer Larry Ochiltree.

“The Great American Songbook” consists of enduring songs that were composed within approximately the first half of the 20th Century. This was a time of extraordinary musical creativity that gave birth to so many of the most beloved jazz, Broadway and Hollywood songs by composers including Cole Porter, George and Ira Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, Harold Arlen, often with renditions by Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Louie Armstrong, Sarah Vaughan, Tony Bennett, and many other recognized artists whose work remains important today. This era also witnessed the evolution of American jazz, an evolution that continues to this day, with singers such as Diana Krall, Nora Jones, Michael Buble’, Dianne Reeves, Stevie Wonder, Harry Connick Jr., Al Jarreau, Manhattan Transfer, Patricia Barber, Esperanza Spalding, and many others.

Concert selections will include old favorites like “Summertime,” “Honeysuckle Rose,” “Rhapsody In Blue,” “S’Wonderful,” “Whatever Lola Wants,” “I Can’t Give You Anything but Love, Baby,” “Sweet Georgia Brown,” “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” and “Puttin’ On The Ritz.”

Tibbits also receives grant funding from the Michigan Arts & Culture Council as well as the National Endowment for the Arts.
