Theatre Alive at Tibbits; Summer Theatre on Its Way

Like many theatres throughout the country, Tibbits has adopted the mantra “Be Safe. Be Kind. Be Hopeful” and has moved its operations to a web-based approach while preparing for the summer theatre season.

COLDWATER – Like many theatres throughout the country, Tibbits has adopted the mantra “Be Safe. Be Kind. Be Hopeful.” and has moved its operations to a web-based approach to adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Theatre is alive even though the pandemic has wreaked havoc on Tibbits’ spring schedule, cancelling a long list of March and April events at the theatre.

“Businesses everywhere are adapting. Since Tibbits can’t bring patrons to the theatre, we’re bringing theatre to patrons instead! We’re mixing up our social media posts—Not only are we posting multiple times a day, but we are also doing a variety of posts from educational and creative ideas to pure entertainment!” said Tibbits Operations Director Stephanie Burdick.

Recent posts have included puppet-making activities for World Puppet Day, musical playoffs between Andrew Lloyd Webber and Lin-Manuel, a sneak preview of Tibbits Young Audiences’ production of “The Secret Garden,” and messages of hope from the professional theatrical community.

After Governor Whitmer’s Executive Order to stay at home, Tibbits’ staff is now working, actively preparing for its summer theatre season that includes “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” “Annie,” “Man of La Mancha,” “Ken Ludwig’s A Comedy of Tenors” as well as special performances of “Love Letters.” 

“We always say that we couldn’t do it without you … and now it’s truer than ever. Thank you for your support and patience as we do our part to keep our community healthy and strong. During this time of finding a new normal, be safe. Be kind. Be hopeful,” said Tibbits Executive Director Christine Delaney.

Tibbits relies heavily on ticket sales for income. Though the theatre is currently dark, there are still bills to pay. The theatre is strong due to the support of many, but those who wish to consider easing the burden of event cancellations can help Tibbits with a tax-deductible donation, becoming a Tibbits member, or buying a gift certificate at Tibbits.org.
