COLDWATER— Emmy award-winning actor, director, singer/song-writer Jeff Daniels returns to Tibbits Sunday, September 20, this time in an online format customized for the opera house.

Last seen at Tibbits in 2017 with his son Ben Daniels’ band, Michigan-native Jeff Daniels will live-stream a concert full of original songs, personal stories from his stage and movie career that only he can tell – and plenty of smiles. The hour-long performance, “Jeff Daniels: Online and Unplugged”, tailored to Tibbits’ audience will also feature a 15 to 30-minute Q&A session following the show. Audience questions will be reviewed with some of them passed along to Jeff for reply.

With his five prior appearances at Tibbits, Jeff Daniels revealed his mastery of guitar, song-writing, and story-telling. His own songs, some poignant, some funny, tell stories of his life and loves. Most were written on location during his extensive film career, offering a glimpse of the celebrities with whom he’s worked and a behind-the-scenes view of his career. Since his last appearance in Coldwater he won a second Emmy for “Godless” plus a nomination for “The Looming Tower,” as well as Tony nominations for “God of Carnage,” “Blackbird,” and “To Kill a Mockingbird” on Broadway.

Between his film and theatre work, Daniels intersperses concert appearances and has performed at clubs, theatres, opera houses and performance centers across the country. With his son’s band, the Ben Daniels Band, he has toured both coasts. He has shared the stage with Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Joe Ely, Cheryl Wheeler, Guy Clark, Christine Lavin, Keb Mo’ and Bruce Hornsby. He performed at David Bromberg’s 70th Birthday Bash at NYC’s Town Hall. In 2012, the Martin Guitar Company began selling the OM Jeff Daniels Custom Artist Edition Guitar. He also narrated their award winning documentary, “The Ballad of The Dreadnought.”

Daniels said, “In 1976, I moved to New York City to become an actor. What I didn’t plan on was being so influenced by so many Off Broadway playwrights. In particular, Lanford Wilson, who would later go on to win a Pulitzer Prize for his play TALLEY’S FOLLY. Lanford taught me so much about the writing process, imagery, the love/hate relationship one has with such a solitary pursuit and the endless rewriting as you search for a better way to say it. In Hollywood, the joke is if you ask any actor what he really wants to do, he’ll say, ‘Direct.’ Not me. I wanted to write. So I did. With a guitar in my hands.”

“Jeff Daniels: Online and Unplugged” opens Tibbits Entertainment Series at 7pm Sunday, September 20. All tickets for this live online event are $15 and available at Tibbits.org. Ticket buyers will receive a unique, non-shareable link prior to the concert to view from the comfort of their home.
