Tibbits Historic Structures Report to be Unveiled before Annual Meeting

COLDWATER – A new perspective on Tibbits Opera House’s historic structure will highlight the theatre’s annual meeting January 21 at 5:30pm as architect Tom Roberts presents a summary of the most recent research his firm completed on the building.

Tibbits Executive Director Christine Delaney with architect Tom Roberts after receiving the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Michigan Building Award in 2016. Roberts will present  his findings in a historic structures report of Tibbits Opera House at the Annual Meeting on January 21, 2020 at the theatre.

The presentation will mainly focus on the architectural changes to the structure since 1882, and Tibbits’ place over time as a cultural and community center.  The research was part of a Historic Structures Report completed by Tom Roberts Architect, LLC and funded with support of the Jeffris Family Foundation. The report provides valuable detail of how decorative and structural elements of the Tibbits Opera House should best be treated. Tibbits Opera House was recently listed in the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service. The NPS considers Historic Structure Reports to be important guides for repair, rehabilitation and restoration. It will be a valuable tool as Tibbits board of directors considers options for continued restoration as well as continued maintenance.

The community and members of the Tibbits Foundation are invited to join the board of directors for a presentation and the annual meeting in the theatre auditorium. Light refreshments will be served. The meeting for Branch County’s center for arts and culture includes a review of the 2018-19 fiscal year, a financial report of the theatre, and highlights for the year ahead. The annual meeting is held each year according to Tibbits’ Articles of Incorporation.

Tibbits Opera House is located at 14 South Hanchett Street, Coldwater. For more information call 517-278-6029 or visit Tibbits.org
