Tibbits Names Megan Smith April Volunteer of the Month
COLDWATER – Through the past year, with ever-changing restrictions on the Tibbits Opera House and its events, volunteers have played a crucial role and for her volunteerism, even through the restrictions, Megan Smith has been named Tibbits’ Volunteer of the Month.
Smith began volunteering with the Tibbits Young Audiences (TYA) program when her daughter was in fourth grade, and though her daughter has outgrown the program, Smith continues to serve as the Flower Coordinator for the TYA shows. She has also volunteered at the Ghost Light Bar, in the gift shop, and as an usher for Popcorn Theatre.
Having been part of the Coldwater community since she was 10 years old, Smith is now married with three children and a granddaughter on the way. She’s currently pursuing her master’s degree in social work while working for Branch Pediatrics.
Smith says she loves volunteering with Tibbits because she loves “seeing kids learn to be part of a team and be proud of themselves!” She adds, “I also love meeting people who are seeing a show for the very first time.”
She has gained many friendships from volunteering. She values them saying, “some of them are like family at this point!”
Tibbits staff chooses the Volunteer of the Month based on hours and/or service, as well as leadership, special skills or expertise shared. Criteria may be project specific or general support and volunteerism. In recognition of this award, Smith received a $25 Coldwater Area Chamber of Commerce Debit Card.
Tibbits is always looking for more volunteers in a variety of areas: ushering, working the gift shop or concessions, doing general office help, sorting archival materials, planting flowers, decorating the theatre, and much more.
