COLDWATER – With the opening of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” Tibbits Summer Theatre extends its appreciation to Parrish Excavating for its sponsorship of the show as well as its overall support of the theatre.

These things and many more like them have kept the company busy.

And we are thankful for the men and women who make up our team of service professionals. Without this team we don’t amount to much outside of a bunch of iron and engines, but with them we do some amazing work. That’s much like the Tibbits. From the Theater’s management team to the professionals that bring us the shows, they do amazing work. We are all tremendously blessed to have such a rich cultural icon here in Coldwater.”

COLDWATER – From magical mermaids, to colorful dancing sea creatures, to a spurned sea witch with a magical shell, experience Tibbits Summer Theatre’s enchanting Under–the-Sea musical with Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” June 29 through July 8 at Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater.
In a magical kingdom beneath the sea, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. Based on a beloved Hans Christian Andersen story, Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, pursues the human Prince Eric. Bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, she trades her tail for legs with unexpected consequences. It takes Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to help Arial restore order under the sea. This fishy fable will capture audience’s hearts with irresistible songs like “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl” and “Part of Your World.”
Ariel (portrayed by Rachel Schoenecker) and Prince Eric (portrayed by Neil Devlin)
Featuring music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, and book by Doug Wright, this mainstage show isn’t just for the kids! Based on the popular Disney film produced by Howard Ashman and John Musker, it was written and directed by John Musker and Ron Clements and originally produced by Disney Theatrical Productions.
Director and long-time Tibbits alum Dougie Robbins says, “One word kept rising to the surface again and again as I worked on ‘The Little Mermaid’: Freedom. Why were the characters of Ariel and Eric so inexplicably unhappy, when they were born into lives of ease? They do not have their freedom. The incredible writing team chose to teach us all about freedom by defining it in one of our deepest life experiences- choosing who we love. This sweet, buoyant musical asks us all to set aside our own prejudices and discover how it feels to be as free and open as the sea.”
Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” is directed and choreographed by Robbins with musical direction by Sarah Altenburg. The professional cast includes Rachel Schoenecker as Ariel, Neil Devlin as Prince Eric, Dominic Green as Sebastian, Aidan Eddie as King Triton, Stephanie (Hemker) Burdick as Ursula, Ephraim Takyi as Flotsam, Annie Ross as Jetsam, Tucker Gold as Flounder, Dennis Dizon as Scuttle, Chad Tallon as Chef Louis, and Brenda Sparks as Grimsby. The ensemble of sailors, mersisters, sea creatures, maids, seagulls, chefs and princesses includes Gianna Branca, Johnny Doty, Olivia Goodman, Carlie Jones, Cheyanne Marie, Cade Ostermeyer, Ethan Peterson, Annie Ross, Rachel Sarles, Megan Stier, Chad Tallon, and Kate Turner.
The design staff features Tanya Sweet as scenic designer, Marc Vital as costume designer, and Jamie Gresens as lighting designer with Tyler Evans as associate lighting designer. Props are by Ray Louise Sunshine, Luis Guzman Galdos joins as sound designer, with Aaron Bell as technical director, Ariel Sheets as production stage manager, and Olivia Goodman as dance captain.

COLDWATER – Dancing across the stage with messages of kindness, community and love, Tibbits Summer Theatre continues its 59th consecutive season with “Godspell,” opening on June 30.
In this energetic and vibrant musical, a small group playfully brings the parables of Jesus to life through a variety of games, storytelling techniques and hefty doses of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville includes “Day by Day,” “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord,” “Learn Your Lessons Well,” “All Good Gifts” and “Turn Back, O Man.”
Hopewell
Director Chad Tallon says, “In today’s world, what can often be lost is the fact that each of us must rely on each other to become the best versions of ourselves. No matter what our background is, the community we build is what continues to move us forward. It is this building of community and love that resonates so deeply within the story of Godspell.”
He continues, “While this story is taken from parables in the Bible, it is the need for a strong, compassionate, and loving community of any shape, color, or background that resonates with everyone. Godspell is, at its core, the most feel-good of musicals that delights audiences based on the bonds that are built between actors and the audience. We are nothing without each other and we all continue to strive to make each other better. THAT is Godspell. THAT is the story we are thrilled to tell at Tibbits.”
With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (known for “Wicked,” “Pippen” and “Children of Eden”) and book by John Michael Tebelak, “Godspell” is directed by Tallon with musical direction by Lori Hatfield and choreography by Liz Davis and Dennis Dizon. The show features Tibbits Summer Theatre veterans Jack Hopewell, Liz Davis and Nile Birch, along with newcomers Gianna Branca, Dennis Dizon, Ruben Fernandez, Dominic Green, Rachel Schoenecker, and Kate Turner. Rachel Sarles will serve as a swing actor. The design staff features Aaron Bell as set designer and technical director, Kate Koskinen as costume designer, Jamie Gresens as lighting designer, props by Maddy Byrnes, Josh Rockwell as sound designer and Ariel Sheets as production stage manager.

Coldwater, MI – A world of moonlight,
magic and romance combine in the musical “The Fantasticks,” when Tibbits Summer
Theatre continues its professional summer theatre season June 30- July 9 at The
Ponds of Coldwater.
“The
Fantasticks” is a funny and romantic musical about a boy, a girl, and their two
fathers who try to keep them apart. It’s the longest-running musical in the
world and with good reason: Its poetry, passion, playfulness and pathos combine
to create a comic and wistful romantic fable about love that grows with each
new season. In this moving tale, young lovers who have become disillusioned discover
a more mature, meaningful love. The story is punctuated by a bountiful series
of catchy, memorable songs, like “Try to Remember,” which have become classics.
According
to Tibbits Artistic Director Peter Riopelle, “This
show blends together all of the vital characteristics that make up a truly
great musical: A romantic, Romeo and Juliet type coming-of-age story, and a
lush, timeless musical score, combined with huge doses of passion, poetry and
great comedy to boot!” On the outdoor location, he says, “The show
works best in an intimate setting, and I felt it would be absolutely perfect
for our venue at the Ponds: A thrilling, wistful and gorgeous evening of
romance and fun out under the stars…”

Coldwater, MI – Tibbits Summer Theatre will open
its 58th consecutive season of professional performances on June 16
with a fun and elegant musical theatre revue, “The Best of Broadway” at The
Ponds of Coldwater.
Last summer while the historic opera house
remained shut down due to the pandemic, Tibbits became one of the few theatres in
the country to produce a summer theatre season. This year, amid continued
uncertainty, presenting outdoors at The Ponds became a certainty from which the
theatre could guarantee the best possible season.
In this opening show, professional actors will
showcase the greatest hits from Broadway—melodies that are guaranteed to have
audiences humming and tapping their toes to the most memorable moments in
musicals throughout the ages! With a variety of solos, duets, and ensemble
pieces, the performance will showcase selections from classic favorites like “Showboat,”
“Hair,” and “Phantom of the Opera,” along with new pieces from “Hamilton,”
“Waitress” and “Dear Evan Hansen.”
This original show is conceived by Tibbits
Artistic Director Peter Riopelle and written and compiled by director Charles Burr and musical director Matthew
Everingham. Burr and Everingham also collaborated last year to create “Sing
Happy,” “A Popped Potpourri,” and “When Radio Was King.”
While Burr has a long list of revues and
collaboration on his resume, the process for “The Best of Broadway” was his
first long distance creation. Burr explained, “It began in March with weekly
phone meetings to Matthew in New York to create a balanced show that flows
seamlessly in (mostly) chronological order. The difference in our ages [40
years] helps create a more comprehensive show. The songs we’ve chosen are great
for the performers we have as well as for honoring the best of Broadway.”
Tibbits Summer
Theatre will feature a core group of professional company members from across
the United States. “The Best of Broadway” will include veteran Tibbits actors Stephanie
Burdick, Liz Davis, Max Gonzalez, Brooke Jackson, and Michael Motkowski along
