COLDWATER – Giving a nod to Tibbits Opera House’s days as a movie theatre from the 1930s-1950s, Popcorn Theatre will conclude the Tibbits Summer Theatre season with a film showing of Disney’s “Encanto” on the big screen August 4 and 5.
In this magical musical film, the multigenerational Madrigals are an extraordinary Colombian family who live hidden in the mountains in a charmed place called the Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift that helps them serve the people in their rural community — every child except Mirabel. When Mirabel learns that magic surrounding Encanto is in danger, she sets out to find out what is happening and save her family and their magical house.

“Aladdin’s Luck” by Janet Stanford opens the Popcorn season with lessons of love, strength and self-acceptance. Clever street urchin Aladdin falls madly for the Princess Leilah at a chance meeting. Aladdin tries to impress her with a magic lamp and genie by his side, but when the lamp falls into the hands of an evil magician, Aladdin must travel across the desert to rescue the princess by doing the thing that scares him the most…being himself.

The madcap adventure includes remarkable characters like the White Rabbit, Talking Flowers, the Mad Hatter and the March Hare. When Alice finally catches up with the White Rabbit in the Queen’s Court, she’s in for her biggest adventure of all.

COLDWATER – The zany antics of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Porky, Sylvester and more will fill the theatre when Tibbits Popcorn Theatre presents “Classic Cartoon Cavalcade” on August 5 and 6, featuring a selection of cartoons from the 1940s and 1950s.
Harking back even before the days of Saturday morning cartoons on TV, kids flocked to movie theatres, including Tibbits, to enjoy these cartoons on the big screen before their favorite serial, Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon or The Lone Ranger. In its salute to yesteryear Tibbits has compiled another collection of these memorable classic cartoons. Previous “Cartoon Cavalcades” have proven the timelessness of the stories in their ability to create pure joy and raucous laughter.
A total of seven shorts will entertain audiences in small doses that pack big punches! They include “One Froggy Evening” featuring a frog that sings and dances; “Jumpin’ Jupiter” wherein Porky and Sylvester’s campsite is towed into outer space; “Much Ado About Nutting” in which a squirrel finds a particularly challenging nut; and “An Itch in Time” featuring Elmer Fudd, his poor pooch and a flea. After the threat of the tiger Shere Khan separates him from his human family, man-cub Mowgli must embark upon a journey of self-discovery, excitement and fun to find his way home. On his path he encounters the wise panther Bagheera, the free-spirited bear, Baloo, the cunning snake Kaa, and many others! Based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories, it is the adventure of a lifetime and tale to delight everyone.
This musical production is written and directed by Chad Tallon who says, “We’ve all heard the phrase “home is where the heart is” and this quote rings especially true in Kipling’s “The Jungle Book.” This adaptation made specifically for Tibbits’ youngest audience members focuses on finding love and joy and ‘home’ in whatever circumstances one is given. While audiences will follow Mowgli’s journey of self-discovery, the message of acceptance can be taken home with audiences young and old alike.” Tallon adds, “I am thrilled to bring this adaptation to the Tibbits’ stage and am ecstatic for everyone to make this jungle their home for a while!”

This enchanting and magical story tells the beloved lesson that things may not be as they appear, and beauty truly is only skin deep! Beautiful but feisty Beauty rescues her father only to find herself a prisoner in the castle of a monstrous Beast. The Beast must earn her love to break the curse which hides the prince inside.

Patrons will be treated to free popcorn and juice at intermission. Popcorn is donated by Ed Lake, with juice donated by McDonalds: The Maynard Organization.
New this year, Popcorn Theatre will have reserved seating. Tickets are $10 including fees and available online at Tibbits.org, at the Tibbits Admin Office at 93 W. Chicago Street 9 am to 5 pm weekdays, by calling 517-278-6029, or at the box office in the theatre one hour prior to all performances. All tickets are charged a facility/ticketing fee whether in person or not; there are no additional fees for ordering online. Group and family rates are available.
Tibbits Opera House Coldwater MI “Beauty and the Lonely Beast,” a Tibbits Popcorn Theatre production, will be on stage at Tibbits Opera House June 17-18 and 24-25. The show features professional actors Dominic Green as the Beast/Prince and Rachel Schoenecker as Beauty.
All performances will be held at the historic Tibbits Opera House, 14 S. Hanchett in Coldwater.
