Tibbits Professional Summer Theatre Season opens with Musical Revue, ‘The Look of Love’

COLDWATER – Tibbits Summer Theatre’s opening show, “The Look of Love,” takes a musical journey through some of the greatest hits of the 60s through the 80s and the works of one of America’s great song writing teams, Burt Bacharach and his longtime partner Hal David.

Together team has written over 300 songs. They won six Grammys, three Academy Awards and were honored with the Gershwin Prize from the Library of Congress. The show features almost 40 of Bacharach’s songs (mostly with lyric writer Hal David)—nearly all of which will be familiar to audiences and a few that may be new discoveries. These songs include a sampling of his early hits such as ‘Walk On By’ and ‘Close to You,’ and some theme songs from film including the Academy Award winning ‘Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head.’

“There’s an unmistakable sound to Bacharach’s music- the sound for a whole generation–that reaches out and grabs the audience,” says Charles Burr, Tibbits Artistic Director. “Bacharach wrote only one Broadway show, but ‘Promises Promises’ ushered in a whole new Broadway sound–with a remarkable number of well known songs,” continued Burr.

According to Burr, the second act is a true hit parade including ‘One Less Bell to Answer,’ Baby, It’s you,’ ‘A House Is Not a Home,’ ‘Make It Easy on Yourself,’ and ‘What the World Needs Now.’

The songs are sung by a cast that includes Summer Theatre returnees Tyler Whitman, Lindsay Dakota and Suzanne Marie Stewart as well as Tibbits newcomers Allison Canning, Andrew Cuccaro and Nasia Thomas. “The Look of Love” is written and compiled by Burr and Trinity Bird. It is directed by Burr with musical direction by Stephen W. Jones.
