Celebrate America with Tibbits Young Audiences’ “We the People”

COLDWATER – Celebrate America with beautiful, patriotic music — from America’s favorite anthems to poignant and uplifting original compositions with Tibbits Young Audiences’ spring musical “We the People” March 18-20 at Tibbits Opera House.

This patriotic tableau by Pat Cook with music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur begins as a committee discusses putting on a patriotic show for their town. Through a series of small-cast sketches and songs organized phrase by phrase from the Preamble, they show not only how the Constitution applies to the past, but also to the present and future. Everyday life is showcased in both funny and touching vignettes that explore the deeper meanings of the language of the Constitution.

The cast is made up of 24 students and includes cast members from Bronson, Coldwater, Quincy, Union City and even Angola, IN. Cast members include Ashlyn Abrey as Betsy, Isabel Christopher as Tommie, Molly Foster as Samantha, Saylor Fraley as Georganna, Ivy Witmer as Abby and Lily Witmer as Martha. London Elkins portrays a mom and an immigrant and also serves as dance captain. The rest of the cast portrays multiple characters and forms the chorus: Maggie Bustos, Molly DeGraff, Cady Fillmore, Emmy Findley-Kyser, Maddy Findley-Kyser, Annabelle Foster, Alana Houtz, Gemma Johnson, Keeley Love, Kenna Niedwiecki, Lela Poe, Madeline Reeves, Milo Reeves, Micailan Reynolds, Pierce Smith, Bethany Uetrecht, Andrew Yelavich.

“We the People” is generously sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Coldwater. Jayne Lillis serves as director and musical director, with Tirsha Odisher as producer and Christine Delaney as choreographer. Jeff Harvey, an alum of TYA, serves as assistant stage manager. Laura Odom has designed costumes, with set design by Leon Kriser, props by Stacy Guertler, and makeup design by Abby Austin. Tibbits Young Audiences offers programs both for and by area youth to develop their interest in the arts. Two shows yearly, a non-musical in the fall and a musical in the spring, provide students an enjoyable introduction to the world of theatre. By putting on a show, they learn teamwork, discipline, theatre skills, self-confidence and an appreciation for the arts.

“We the People” will run March 18 and 19 at 7pm with a 2pm matinee on March 20. Reserved seating tickets are $7 each.  Tickets are available online at Tibbits.org, at the Tibbits Administration Office located at 93 W. Chicago Street, and at the door. All shows will be held at Tibbits Opera House, 14 South Hanchett Street, Coldwater, Mich. Concessions will be available. Tibbits Young Audiences Announces Auditions for “We the People”

COLDWATER – Tibbits Young Audiences will hold auditions for its spring musical, “We the People” on December 13 and 14 at 5pm at Tibbits Opera House.

There is no better way to celebrate America than with beautiful, patriotic music — from America’s favorite anthems to poignant and uplifting original compositions. This patriotic tableau begins as a committee discusses putting on a patriotic show for their town. Through a series of small-cast sketches and songs organized phrase by phrase from the Preamble, they show not only how the Constitution applies to the past, but also to the present and future. Everyday life is showcased in both funny and touching vignettes that explore the deeper meanings of the language of the Constitution.

A cast of 14 students from Coldwater, Union City, and Angola, Ind. participated in Tibbits Young Audiences’ fall production “Comic Book Artist.” Auditions for the next show, “We the People” will be December 13 and 14 at 5 pm at Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater, MI.

Auditions are open to any student in fourth through eighth grades. Students should bring a current, non-returnable photo, their completed audition form, and be accompanied by a parent or guardian; no additional guests will be allowed. Students will audition in small groups. They will be asked to introduce themselves from stage, read parts from the script, sing a familiar children’s song, and follow some simple choreography. Masks may be required for all attending.

Script samples of the audition reading and audition forms are available at Tibbits.org. Rehearsals will be held Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-6:30pm; not all roles meet all days. The show will take place at Tibbits March 18 and 19 at 7pm and March 20 at 2pm.

“We the People” will be directed by Julia Littley with musical direction by Jayne Lillis and produced by Tirsha Odisher. This production is generously sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Coldwater. Students involved will learn characterization, blocking, costuming, makeup and all aspects of a stage production.
