Tibbits Announces Kids Summer Theatre Workshop

COLDWATER – Students can explore the world of theatre and performance through a newly expanded two-week summer workshop and showcase performance led by Tibbits Summer Theatre company member Chad Tallon.

After a successful implementation of the workshop last year, Tibbits has expanded the workshop to two weeks, running June 15 through 18 and June 22 through 26 with a showcase performance on Saturday, June 27. The workshop will adapt to any social distancing requirements still in effect.

Tallon, an experienced actor and drama teacher will lead students on an artistic adventure, exploring the world of theatre and honing their own skills through theatre games, role playing and performance activities. The primary goal is to have fun but through the process young actors will build their confidence, improve their public speaking skills and learn through teamwork. Participants will work together to build their basic theatre understanding and work individually on performances of their choice.

Tallon, a professional actor and teacher from Illinois, has worked as an actor all over the United States including five summers in Coldwater for Tibbits Summer Theatre. His favorite shows at Tibbits include “The Producers,” “Chicago,” “Funny Money,” and “Greater Tuna.”  Currently the drama teacher at Thomas Metcalf School in Bloomington, IL, Tallon has spent the last four years teaching drama to grades 1-8 and directing multiple productions during the school year. Tallon’s teaching experience began in 2011 while on a National Tour of “Taming of the Shrew” and “Of Mice and Men” where he worked as workshop master for young audiences. He taught at the college level before moving to Syracuse, NY to work as an actor, teaching fellow, and curriculum coordinator at the Redhouse Arts Center. In Syracuse, he worked with the youth of the Syracuse City School District in the classroom every day integrating theatre into the common core curriculum.
