COLDWATER –The unique and engaging sounds of The Ragbirds will fill the Tibbits theatre on Sunday, November 23 with world-class entertainment as part of Tibbits Entertainment Series.
The Ragbirds and their music defy simple description. Called world-beat-folk-rockers, they fuse folk rock and pop hooks with danceable world rhythms that often include accents from Celtic fiddle, violin, mandolin, banjo, accordion, and percussion. The group led by dynamic, energetic front woman and multi-instrumentalist Erin Zindle, utilizes instruments from around the world, a sweet voice and versatile songwriting.
Surrounding Zindle’s earthy-sweet voice is the whirlwind of guitarist T.J. Zindle and dynamic bassist Brian Crist, spinning over the world-beat grooves of drummer Loren Kranz and percussionist, Randall Moore. Zindle skillfully switches between instruments while dancing around the stage leaving audiences in awe. Together the group has performed across the country in over 30 states with more than 150 shows a year.
Ann Arbor, Michigan, based The Ragbirds travel across country to concert venues and festival stages in a family-size diesel tour vehicle, which will also be converted to run on recycled waste vegetable oil, continuing their tradition of sustainable touring and green travel. This fall the band returned to the recording studio to work on their fifth studio release project; the album will be released in 2015.
The Ragbirds’ albums have received local and national praise, hailed “Highly impressive!” by USA Today and touted as “Astounding international eclecticism” by Reveal Arts. The Ragbirds were formed in 2005 with the release of Yes Nearby. 2007’s world-travel themed Wanderlove was Homegrown Music Network’s number one selling album in the fall of 2008. The 2009 international release of Finally Almost Ready saw the band invade Japan with the single “Book of Matches” reaching number one on the charts in Osaka. In 2010, The Ragbirds reached yet another milestone when they independently marketed and sold their 10,000th album.
The Ragbirds perform in concert at 7 pm at the historic Tibbits Opera House at 14 South Hanchett Street, Coldwater. A beer and wine cash bar will be available. Tickets are $22, $20 for Tibbits members and $17 for students including fees. There will be an “on your feet” section for those who prefer to view their concerts while standing.
