Tibbits January Volunteer of the Month: Luba Fry
COLDWATER – For her recent organizational help with Tibbits’ costume shop overhaul, Tibbits has named Luba Fry as its January volunteer of the month.
After moving to Coldwater in summer of 2016, Fry became involved with Tibbits in 2017 as an usher and a bartender. In the fall she helped enter auction items into the database. Recently, she helped sort, photograph, and catalog several hundred wigs as part of the costume shop’s major overhaul.

Born in Leningrad, USSR, she moved to New York City as a child. After graduating, she trained as a nurse and served in the U.S. Army. After her travels, she found herself in the Coldwater area with her husband Don and their son Dale. Having access to a lot of theatrical opportunities in NYC, and having always loved live theatre, Fry says “It’s a big treat to find Tibbits in this small town. I immediately wanted to be part of the Tibbits family in any way that I could.”
A former nurse, she currently spends her time enjoying life by hiking and taking in nature as well as volunteering, dancing, and supporting the arts.
Fry says she loves being a volunteer with Tibbits because “I love the feeling of helping to promote the arts and being part of this community.”
The Volunteer of the Month is chosen by Tibbits staff. Selection is based on the hours and/or service, as well as leadership, special skills or expertise shared. Criteria may be project specific or general support and volunteerism. In recognition of this award, Fry received a $25 Coldwater Area Chamber of Commerce Debit Card.
Tibbits is always looking for more volunteers in a variety of areas: ushering, working the gift shop or concessions area, doing general office help, sorting archival materials, planting flowers, decorating the theatre, and much more. Those interested in volunteering should contact Tirsha Odisher at Tibbits at 517-278-6029 or boxoffice@Tibbits.org. Tibbits Opera House is located at 14 S. Hanchett Street, Coldwater, MI. www.Tibbits.org.
