COLDWATER – Area elementary students will experience live theatre and celebrate the country’s rich folklore as Wild Swan Theater presents American Short & Tall Tales for Tibbits’ school programming series on Tuesday, February 13.
Humor, stories, and music will delight audiences as the performers crisscross the nation, bringing to life the tall tales that helped create our unique “melting pot” heritage. The performance follows life along the Mississippi with Mike Fink and Sally Ann Thunder Ann Whirlwind Crocket, a Louisiana bayou with Compere Lapin and a southwestern village where old Tia Miseria has a trick or two up her sleeve.
Wild Swan Theater is an Ann Arbor-based professional theater company focused on theatre for young people. Every year their troupe of actors and musicians travel throughout Michigan and the Midwest, providing engaging and enriching live theater experiences for children and their families.
Asama Coldwater Manufacturing has teamed with Tibbits to help the theatre present its school performance series. In addition to American Short & Tall Tales, Wild Swan Theater will also present A Honey Pot of Pooh Stories and Shipwrecked in April. Pirate School: The SCIENCE of Pirates! will take the stage in March with David Engel’s one-man show. High school students will see their English lesson come to life as Michigan Shakespeare Festival presents Romeo and Juliet in May. The program is also funded in part by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the Michigan Humanities Council.
American Short & Tall Tales will be presented for two performances at 9:30 am and 1 pm. Schools participating include Jefferson Elementary, Lakeland Elementary, and St. Mary’s. Other groups, schools, and individuals with children are encouraged to attend.
