Tibbits – Treasure Island
COLDWATER, Mich. – A swashbuckling tale of tattered maps, treasure, and treachery, this is one show that will keep children on the edge of their seats. “Treasure Island” opens at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 20 at Tibbits Opera House as part of Tibbits professional Summer Theatre.
The 1883 adventure novel by Robert Louis Stevenson has led to our popular perceptions of pirates including such elements as treasure maps marked with an “X”, tropical islands, and one-legged seamen bearing parrots. This unique, theatrical adaption creates a magical atmosphere of unforgettable characters and action.
The cast includes Nate Klingenberg playing the role of Long John Silver, Wayne Davis as Jim Hawkins, Jonah Kramer as Dr. Livesey, and Joshua Smith as Billy Bones. The adventure centers on a search for a buried treasure and young Jim’s struggle to figure out who he can trust. The presentation is sponsored by Kaia Brooke Donay in loving memory of her sisters, Macy and Sydney Donay, and will also feature Jonah Kramer, Ricky Wenthen, Ryan Blackson, Ezekiel Edmonds, Liam Johnson, and TJ Besler.
Popcorn Theatre is made possible through the generosity of Dr. Jon and Seibra Herbener and Dr. Nichole Ellis. Popcorn Theatre’s live, professional performances have, for generations, been based on favorites in children’s literature, as well as music and other live performances.
